General discussion on how to handle something as simple as parking can save you fuel in a number differnt situations.

Live from New York, it’s CleanMPG!

Our trusted engine expert, Chris Bernius (MaxxMPG) is ready to hit the floor running…

The New York International Auto Show (NYIAS for short) will be our last major auto show of the year, otherwise known as the “Silly Season”. What makes it silly? Manufacturers compete for your attention in the most unique ways. Some use pomp and circumstance, others are all light shows and laser beams, further some bring in the dancing girls and some even play on your emotions with cute and cuddly animals to grab your attention. They all do a pretty good job if I do say so myself.

Beginning tomorrow morning, our brave and illustrious medical professional as Automobile Journalist will run from venue to venue attempting to keep up with the latest news while also asking those special questions in order to mine the gold in “dem der hills”. Wish Chris the best of luck as he’s going to need it in his first show in which he is flying blind and all on his own…

Deadly effects of the 55 mph Speed Limit repeal in the US

55 mph… Exceeding it proves to be more deadly!

We examined the long-term effects of the 1995 repeal of federal speed limit controls on road fatalities and injuries in fatal crashes…

We found a 3.2% increase in road fatalities attributable to the raised speed limits on all road types in the United States. The highest increases were on rural interstates (9.1%) and urban interstates (4.0%). We estimated that 12,545 deaths (95% confidence interval [CI] = 8739 to 16,352) and 36,583 injuries in fatal crashes (95% CI = 29,322 to 43,844) were attributable to increases in speed limits across the United States.

Conclusions…

NADA complains about higher FE rules

In response to the new model year 2012-16 automobile and light-truck fuel economy mandates, Ed Tonkin, chairman of the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) released the following statement: “These new rules are the most expensive fuel economy mandates in history. In part, this is a result of three different fuel economy standards set by three different agencies (U.S. Department of Transportation, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board) under three different sets of rules. This is in direct contradiction to the one national fuel economy standard established by Congress in 2007.” …

“America’s new car and truck dealers support higher fuel economy standards, but recognize that for most Americans a car or truck is a necessity, not a luxury. Under these new mandates, the price of new cars and light trucks will rise significantly, meaning fewer Americans will be able to buy the new vehicles of their choice.” …
